Colophon
How this site is made: the type, the color, the artwork, the build, and the parts written for agents.
Type
Headings, navigation, and labels are set in Archivo, by the Archivo Project Authors (Omnibus-Type). Reading text is set in Literata, by the Literata Project Authors, using its optical sizes, so small text and large text each get a design drawn for their size. Both are open-source fonts under the SIL Open Font License, served from this site rather than a third party.

Black, grays, and white carry the pages. One accent color carries the rest, and it follows the light in Manila: it changes with the time of day there, from rose madder at dawn and cerulean at midday to vermilion at sunset and ultramarine at night, and clouds, rain, or a storm soften it. Each accent is a scale of 12 steps in the OKLCH color space. There are no gradients. Every pair of text and background colors meets WCAG 2.2 AA contrast in the light and the dark theme, under every accent, checked by a script in the repository. Without JavaScript the site keeps its midday color.
The weather comes from MET Norway’s forecast for Manila, used under CC BY 4.0 and turned into a color. The line about the weather in the footer, with today’s high and low, comes from PAGASA’s forecast for Metro Manila, or from MET Norway’s when PAGASA’s is not available.
Artwork
The plates are abstract paintings made in code. Each is one kind of light, such as haze, rain, dappled shade, or light on water, painted in broken color: short, separate strokes of unblended color laid side by side. The darks are deep mixtures of color rather than black. No plate copies or follows a particular painting. A program paints each plate stroke by stroke from a fixed seed, so the same seed always paints the same plate. On the site each plate takes a thin glaze of the accent color, so the paintings change with the light in Manila too.
Build

- Vercel
A static site built with Astro from Markdown files, hosted on Vercel, and edited in Pages CMS. Every factual statement traces to a sourced ledger, and every change is reviewed before it ships. AI agents help me draft this site.
The icons are from Lucide, under the ISC license. Four of them (compass, target, arrow-up, and info) derive from Feather, under the MIT license. Both licenses are in the repository, in src/assets/icons/LICENSE.md.
For agents
# Colophon How this site is made: the type, the color, the artwork, the build, and the parts written for agents. ## Type
Every page has a Markdown copy at its own address followed by index.md, made from the page itself each time the site is built, so the two say the same thing. /llms.txt lists the copies, following the llms.txt proposal, and each page links to its copy and to /llms.txt. Each page also describes Kwirita and Lance in schema.org structured data, and each essay and case study describes itself. The “Agent view” link in the footer of each page swaps the page for its Markdown copy, to show what an agent reads.
Accessibility
The target is WCAG 2.2 AA. Pages are checked with axe and by keyboard, and motion stops when your system asks for reduced motion. If something is hard to use, write through the Contact page.
