The company

GoAbroad.com is a Colorado company that runs directories of programs abroad: study, volunteering, internships, teaching, and more.

The work

I worked in GoAbroad’s Philippines office from March 2008 to July 2010. I led design of the client dashboard and of the internal tools the sales and finance teams used. I was one of the team that designed co-branded client marketing sites and collateral.

I also pushed for practices the team had not used much before: usability testing, task analysis, user-flow documentation, and proofing visual design against the build.

What carried over

Internal tools get no launch announcement. Either the sales and finance teams can do their jobs with them or they cannot. I still trust that test most. Does the work hold up for the person who uses it every day?

Write early, while the names and screens can still change. A few lines are enough: what it does, who it’s for, how far along you are. I reply within two working days, Manila time.
